Hydrogen Fuel for Cars - Using Byproducts to Produce Hydrogen

The prospect of using hydrogen for our major fuel source is catching on around the world. This is an exciting time for all of us. We need a renewable source of fuel that does not contribute to the warming of our atmosphere. Hydrogen fuel is the latest and best idea we’ve seen yet. However, there are some problematic issues involved that must be resolved before we can take full advantage of hydrogen technology.

While hydrogen is in our atmosphere in abundance, it is not in a form that we can use. The methods we are using include the electrolysis of water (separating hydrogen from oxygen molecules) and natural gas steam reforming.

Neither of these methods can be used with enough efficiency to supply all of our homes and vehicles with hydrogen fuel. That is why researchers are working night and day to find a way to produce hydrogen that makes it available to everyone. The sources we use now that are hydrogen renewable include solar energy, tidal energy, ethanol, biomass, hydroelectricity and wind.

There are more methods being looking into such as gravitation as means of producing hydrogen fuel. Scientific researchers are also studying the possibility of using byproducts.
Clean coal produces hydrogen as a byproduct when it produces electricity. It may be captured and sold to facilities that use hydrogen. The production of sodium chlorate has hydrogen as a byproduct. Since sodium chlorate is used in bleach and pesticides, this could be a viable source of hydrogen. There are studies being done by labs across the world that involve using steam from nuclear reactors to produce hydrogen through electrolysis. In the U.K., a recent experiment with chocolate waste showed promise.

As you can see, world leaders and scientists are scrambling to find ways to make the use of hydrogen fuel available to the general population. Most of us think of hydrogen powered vehicles when we think of hydrogen fuel and that is the major area that we are planning to use it, but the use of hydrogen fuel can be applied in a myriad of other ways as well.

At the current time, hydrogen fuel for cars is a reality. We can apply the use of hydrogen fuel on a smaller scale, but it is still beneficial to the environment and the economy. While waiting for the worldwide spread of hydrogen fuel as the major fuel source, there is something we can do that uses hydrogen technology right now.

We can convert our cars and make them hybrids. This type of hybrid uses gasoline and hydrogen as a power source. The use of hydrogen fuel along with gasoline is a smart way to reduce carbon emissions and increase our vehicles’ gas mileage.

With a little bit of homework and less money than you think, your car can be converted to use water as a means of producing hydrogen. The idea of hydrogen fuel for cars is exciting and many people are already using the technology.
While hydrogen production using byproducts is still being developed we can use what we have right now to improve our world. Buy an HHO kit and convert your vehicle today. Future generations will be happy you did.
